Gloria Jean's Coffee

So right yet so wrong

This place looks and feels like a very modern coffee house. There is a large variety of yummy-looking desserts, and a full range of coffees. The decor is very pleasant. Full marks for the look of the environment.

Sadly, the whole experience is disappointing because of 3 things, which I hope the management will soon fix. (1) they did not air out the place properly before opening it up to the public. The sharp fumes of paint immediately make your eyes water, and your nose sting as you inhale. (2) the waiters and servers hardly know what they are doing. It seems none of them have been trained. They take your order, then refuse to make eye contact. The coffee is served at the far end of the counter, but they will never tell you where it is. And if you have ordered a dessert, it will be served at the start of the counter, but again, they won't tell you that, you have to ask a couple of times to figure out how to get all the things you ordered. And it doesn't help that they get your order wrong too. (3) the desserts LOOK great, but sadly they taste rather bland. I get the impression I am eating plastic. For such expensive cakes and pies, I would have expected them to at least taste good.
